Are you flying from Schiphol Airport with your family? Find out about all the services available for families and young travelers at Schiphol Airport!
Our Tip: Are you traveling with a child under 18? Even if you are one of the parents, you’ll need parental permission from the non-accompanying parent (or guardian/custodian) to fly with the minor from Amsterdam Airport.
The Baby Care Lounge
The Baby Care Lounge has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate families traveling with babies and young children. It is located on Holland Boulevard on the way to Gates D1-D57, E, F, G, and H. Thus, it can be found airside, on the terminal’s first floor between Lounges 2 and 3. Unfortunately, the area is accessible only to intercontinental passengers. It is open all week from 06:00 am to 10:00 pm and can be used free of charge. The complimentary Baby Care Lounge is a highly valued facility, offering a cozy environment with wooden details, soothing colors, and gentle lighting, making it ideal for babies to relax or even take a nap before their flight. Indeed, it features seven cabins equipped with baby cots, each surrounded by comfortable sofas and curtains, creating a quiet environment for parents and babies to rest. Additional lighting is available if needed, and WiFi is also provided. Moreover, the lounge offers facilities for meal preparation. Overall, it is the ideal place to be when traveling with children younger than 3.
Baby Care Areas
Apart from the Baby Care Lounge, numerous baby care areas are located near the airport’s restrooms. They offer changing tables, cleaning facilities, and a feeding area. Moreover, mothers who need to express milk can find a designated zone within these facilities. All baby care areas are regularly cleaned to ensure a healthy environment for families and children. Additionally, they are spacious enough to comfortably accommodate children in strollers.
The Schiphol Kids Playground
The Schiphol Kids Playground is definitely the most favored area for children at the airport. Here, you’ll find a replica of a plane. It is a play structure modeled after an airplane and adjusted to become a kids’ toy. Kids can climb it, slide down its slides, crawl through its tunnels, or even pretend to pilot the plane in the cockpit. Plenty of seating is available nearby for parents to relax while children enjoy themselves at the playground. The food court is also within a short distance, in case parents or children want a drink or a snack. The Children’s Corner is located in Lounge 2 on the terminal’s second level, airside. You’ll find it on the way to Gates D1–D57, E, F, G, and H, near Gate D59. The area is free of charge for AMS travelers.
Plane Spotting
Although it isn’t dedicated exclusively to the airport’s youngest passengers, Panorama Terrace, located on the roof of the terminal building, attracts both adults and children, offering seamless views of the runways. Families enjoy watching planes land and take off, while children are especially thrilled by the actual KLM Fokker 100 on the terrace, which allows visitors to explore its cockpit. You can access Panorama Terrace via Café Rembrandt on the terminal’s ground floor. It is located landside, in the pre-security area, and is accessible to travelers and their companions. The area isn’t open around the clock. It is open from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm. Please note that a restaurant — Panorama Terrace — is also located here.
Our Tip: Panorama Terrace is an outdoor area. Therefore, keep in mind that it may be closed during your visit due to weather conditions.
The Family Meet & Assist Service
Schiphol Airport offers the Meet & Assist service, giving families, among other passengers, the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant and hassle-free experience at the airport. Welcome services are provided to arriving passengers either at the plane door or the terminal gate. Passengers are assisted through passport control, baggage claim, and customs, and are accompanied to the pick-up point or their chosen mode of transportation. On the other hand, departing travelers are welcomed at their Departure Hall (or at the agreed meeting point) and assisted through check-in. Fast-track services are also provided at the security screening and passport control zones. Transit passengers can also be helped through their transfer procedures. The service costs 199€/227$ and is valid for up to 5 passengers and for a 2-hour time frame. Each additional hour is charged at 65€/71$, while lounge access comes with an extra 32.50€/36$ fee per passenger. Finally, if you also need porter services, you’ll need to pay 159€/178$ for 5 pieces of luggage (up to 2 hours). Rates include taxes. Overall, the Meet & Assist service proves to be of great value for families, as it offers them assistance through every step of their travel experience.
Children with Hidden Disabilities
If you’re traveling with a child with hidden disabilities — such as autism — you may need extra help during airport procedures. Schiphol Airport provides special care for children with hidden disabilities, as long as the accompanying adults obtain a green lanyard. The green lanyards are available at the Assistance Counters in all Departure Halls. Airport staff are trained to spot the lanyard and recognize the disability in order to provide special assistance through security control, immigration, baggage claim, and boarding.
